COMMUNITY CENTER

Located on the Mississippi, this community center mirrors the shape of the river with the floor plan being an adaptation of the meandering water’s path. Leading users seamlessly from one room to another, the curves spark curiosity and intrigue users to explore what's around the bend. The organic furniture represents oxbows in the river that separate off from the main body of the water. Constructed entirely out of wood, the rooms on the river side emulate the wooden interior of boats that pass by and match the nature that can be seen outside. Additionally, the drop ceiling is made out of a semi transparent material called dakron that is often used to construct sails on boats. The color scheme is directly inspired by the surrounding greenery and rusty oil rig reminiscence. Overall, the building instills a cohesive nature-centered feeling that matches the surrounding environment.
